6-year-old boy shoots teacher in classroom in US, detained
New York: A six-year-old boy has been detained in the US state of Virginia for allegedly shooting a teacher at his school. The student, who was studying in Class 1, had a dispute with the teacher on Friday. Newport News City Police and school management gave this information. However, no student was injured in the shooting incident at The Richneck Elementary School, police said.
The teacher, who is in her 30s, was seriously injured after being shot, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said.
However, her condition improved by noon. “The shooting was not an accident,” Drew told reporters. The students and the teacher knew each other and there was a dispute between the two over something.
He said the boy had brought the weapon to the class and the investigating officers were trying to find out from where he had the weapon. The police chief, however, did not give details in this regard.
Jocelyn Glover, the mother of a fourth-grade student at the school, told the Virginia-Pilot newspaper that she received a call from the school that one person had been shot and another had been taken into custody. Glover said, “My heart sat down with this message. I was terrified thinking that the person was her son. ”
However, Glover’s 9-year-old son Carlos was on lunch leave at the time. He said the school children were crying loudly after the incident.
