Canada surpass 1k mark of confirmed Monkeypox cases, most in Ontario

Ontario: Following the Covid-19 virus, health Canada is now struggling to tackle the rising threat of monkey virus as the country has hit 1,008 confirmed cases of this new virus, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

As per the data, most 478 cases are being reported from Ontario province followed by Quebec with 425 cases and British Columbia reported 85 cases while Alberta recorded16 cases of monkeypox. The Saskatchewan and Yuon provinces reported two each.

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a ‘global health emergency’ regarding the virus in view of the growing threat of monkeypox. Experts have appealed to all the people to be constantly careful about this infection.

Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer said in a statement that its National Microbiology Laboratory is performing diagnostic testing for the virus that causes monkeypox. In addition, the laboratory is also conducting whole genome sequencing, an enhanced fingerprint analysis, on Canadian samples of monkeypox. This sequencing will help our experts understand the chains of transmission occurring in Canada. The laboratory is working in close collaboration with provincial and territorial public health laboratories to provide testing guidance and to increase testing capacity for monkeypox.
