Conservative Party to readjust plans to announce next leader after Queen’s death

Ottawa: After the death of Queen Elizabeth II , the Conservative Party of Canada is considering changing plans for leadership convention in wake of Queen’s death.

The party was planning to announce its new leader in Ottawa on Saturday, after it started counting over 400,000 ballots that have been cast in the party’s leadership race.

But after the Queen’s death, it will not be possible because there is a wave of mourning in Canada like Britain at this moment.

In a statement on Thursday, Eon Brody, chair of the party’s Leadership Election Organising Committee, said that party will respect the protocols surrounding Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Brody said the committee was considering a reasonable time to announce the results of this leadership race.

Earlier, the party had booked a space at a convention centre in downtown Ottawa and already sold tickets for $150.
