Trudeau government tables bill aiming to protect child-care system from future governments
Ottawa: Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Karina Gould on Thursday introduced the bill Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act also known as Bill C-35 to further strengthen childcare in Canada.
The bill will also determine Ottawa’s long-standing role in the new national daycare system.
The Liberal government will reduce daycare fees by an average of 50 percent and it will be reduced to $ 10 per day by 2026. In a federal budget presented in 2021, the Liberals pledged to spend $30 billion on the national childcare system over the next five years. After this, it was also said to spend $ 9.2 billion annually.
Earlier this year, Gould said the bill would also uphold the principles of a funding agreement signed by provinces and territories with Ottawa. This will also include reduction in parent fees and creation of more space.
