Biden says he and China’s Xi agree to abide by Taiwan agreement
United States President Joe Biden said that he has not spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about Taiwan after Beijing sent military aircraft into self-ruled island’s air defence zone (ADIZ).
Biden said that he and Xi had discussed the Taiwan issue while reacting over China’s provocation over Taiwan.
“I have spoken to Chinese President about Taiwan and we agree, we will abide by the Taiwan agreement. I don’t think he should be doing anything other than abiding by the agreement,” Biden said at the White House.
Meanwhile, Taiwan said that it tracked a record 56 Chinese aircraft in ADIZ that began on China’s National Day since last Friday and promoted the island to scramble fighter jets in response.
Beijing has been claiming that Taiwan is in its own territory and has stepped up cross-strait activities this year.
