Aconite toxin found in spice product linked to Markham restaurant
Markham: York Region Public Health has confirmed the detection of a toxic source in the case of people who fell ill due to eating at a restaurant in Markham.
The agency says that aconite toxin has been found in the powder used by the restaurant.
York Region Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barry Paux said that it is confirmed by York Region Public Health that people fell ill due to the use of The Right Brand’s Kimpfaria Galanga powder.
He said that the at154 code number is written on the packaging of this powder. Although other samples related to this powder of the same brand have come negative, the health authorities have advised people not to use this powder.
Public Health stated that the packages of kimpfaria galanga powder of the brand have been recalled.
Meanwhile, public health said only one person was hospitalized and the condition of all the others who fell ill after eating at The Delight Restaurant and Barbecue in Markham was improving.
It has been cleared to reopen after a re-inspection of The Delight Restaurant and Barbecue.
