Brenda Locke elected mayor of Surrey
Surrey: Former municipal councillor Brenda Locke has ousted incumbent mayor Doug McCallum’s for the top post in Surrey.
The decision ended a race in which about half a dozen high-profile candidates put forward their names, including several federal and provincial politicians with their roots in Surrey.
It was a tight three-way competition between McCallum, Locke and Gordie Hogg, the former mayor of White Rock and former MLA and MP from South Surrey.
Brenda was a Member of the Legislature, the Minister of State for Mental Health & Addictions, Executive Director of the RMT Association and the BC Liquor Retailers Association, as well as several board positions. As a Councillor for the last 4 years, she supported the Harmony Apartments, the Cloverdale Arena, and other community sport and leisure infrastructure projects.
