Canada to ban import of handguns

Ottawa: In a bid to contain the gun violence, the Government of Canada has temporarily restricted the import of handguns from August 19.

The Justin Trudeau government is planning to introduce a gun control legislation proposed in May.

According to the information, the bill addresses the alarming role of guns in gender based violence, gets tough on organized crime and most significantly introduces a national freeze on the sale, transfer and ownership of handguns, anywhere in Canada.

Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs today announced this temporary import ban on the handguns and said that ban will take place on August 19.
