Japan’s health ministry said Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 that it is suspending use of about 1.63 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna Inc. after contamination was found in portions of unused vials, raising concern of a supply shortage as the country desperately tries to accelerate vaccinations amid the surge of infections. London: A recent study has revealed that a new mutated form of COVID-19 virus, also known as “Delta Plus” is likely to spread more easily than regular Delta.
This variant has been put under investigation category by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to reflect this possible risk. There is, however, no evidence so far that it causes worse illness.
Experts are confident that covid vaccines will work well against this virus to protect people. In the UK cases of “Delta Plus” or AY.4.2 have been increasing.
Latest official data suggests 6% of Covid cases are of this type.
