Labour Minister holds meeting with provincial and territorial counterparts to discuss labour shortages in Canada
Ottawa: In a move to tackle with shortage of workforce in the Canada, Minister of Labour, Seamus O’Regan Jr., held a meeting virtually with provincial and territorial labour ministers.
Minister said that he discussed priorities in workplaces and collaboration with all levels of government to arrange support workers in the country also to formulate strategies for labour shortages that are creating across all jurisdictions.
Minister informed the ministers about various initiatives being taken by Canadian government to address grim situation of labour shortage and need of investing in skills development and building a plan for sustainable jobs in Canada.
He also informed that government is implementing 10 days of paid sick leave for workers in the federally regulated private sector.
Meanwhile, the amendments to the Canada Labour Code will come into force no later than December 1, 2022 in which government of Canadian workers is going to amend some rules for welfare of workers considering the global economy and today’s workplaces change.
