Mail-in ballots will not be opened until Tuesday, election officials say
TORONTO: The Canada Election officials on Monday said that the final results of the federal election may not be known until Wednesday due to record one million mail-in ballots that will not be opened until Tuesday.
The mail-in ballots could prove crucial to the result, may have to wait days for a winner to be declared.
Around 5.7 million people have voted at advance polls and many had voted by mail, Elections Canada is still expecting that a significant turnout of voters on September 20. A record-setting early turnout that suggests there’s an energized electorate.
