Mayoral candidate Motkaluk targets Murray for blowing federal campaign expense deadline
Winnipeg: The mayoral candidate of Winnipeg Jenny Motkaluk has levelled allegations of violating federal election rules against the rival candidate Glen Murray as he did not public campaign expenses from his bid till now.
Motkaluk, who finished second in the 2018 mayoral race, held a press conference here and urged Elections Canada to initiate a probe against Murray’s campaign expenses for the Green Party of Canada’s leadership race.
She accused Murray of violating campaign disclosure and said if Mr Murray has failed to comply with the Canada Elections norms, the voters can only presume that he believes that rules do not apply to him.
The Elections Canada had originally allowed Murray campaign a two-month extension to submit the expenses. Now, the second extension can only be granted by a court. Murray should be held to account for violating the rules, she said.
The Green Party of Canada did not respond to claims yet.
