O’Toole surpasses Justin Trudeau in a popularity survey, report

TORONTO: The Conservatives leader Erin O’Toole has surpassed Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau in popularity among voters, according to nightly tracking conducted by Nanos Research for CTV News and the Globe and Mail.

According to the survey reports released on Friday morning, ballot support for the Conservatives is 35.7 per cent, compared with 30.7 per cent for the Liberals.

The poll has a margin of error ± 2.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

It shows that popularity of O’Toole is increasing as Prime Minister as he gets 31.1% support as compared to Trudeau at 27.3% and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh gets 19.6% in third.

The first French-language debate took place on Thursday in Quebec and incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced stiff questions over handling of Covid-19 pandemic during series of face-to-face encounters between two people at a time.

Following this, there is a shift in the momentum and Liberal are hoping to gather more support in the upcoming second French-language debate set for September 8, and the English debate on September 9.
