Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become first Canadian PM to paid his respects to victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide in Kigali, Rwanda. He was there for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
“Today, we visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay our respects to the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi. We must never forget them or the suffering they endured, and we must never allow such atrocities to happen again,” Trudeau said.
Trudeau also has an Office of the High Commission in Kigali.
Meanwhile, The Rwandan genocide, also known as the genocide against the Tutsi, occurred between April and July in 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War.
