Queen Elizabeth’s coffin begins final journey
London: Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s funeral coffin has begun its final journey from Belmoral Castle to London today. It was brought out of the castle for the first time today and kept in the Hallerudhouse Palace, the Queen’s official Scottish residence, in Edinburgh.
After a six-hour journey, the coffin has been kept in a room in the palace. It will be kept in accordance with Scotland’s royal standards here until Monday afternoon. Here she will be paid tribute by the members of the royal family.
There was a convoy of seven cars with the coffin. The Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, was also present in the convoy. It moved slowly towards Edinburgh so that people on the way could see it pass. The coffin also passed through the Parliament of Scotland from where it was seen by the leaders there. Next week, the coffin will be flown to London, where the funeral will take place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey. A bank holiday has been declared in the UK on this day.
Earlier, the coffin will be kept in Westminster Hall for four days and the British people will pay tribute.
