Trudeau’s Appeals For ‘Science to End Pandemic’ as Canada Leaders Kick off Final Day of Campaign

OTTAWA: With a day left for federal election, leaders of Canada’s main political parties on Sunday organised campaigns for the final day here.

The polls surveys are indicating that the Liberals of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hold an edge in the election and likely to form the government again.

Trudeau, who had called the vote two years ago to gain a majority government, faced stiff attack from opposition for calling elections during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He lost the majority in Parliament in 2019. He first took power in 2015.

Trudeau’s initial healthy lead disappeared as voters were unhappy with the early call. Polls show that neither the Liberals nor their rival right-leaning Conservatives have anywhere near the 38% public support needed for a majority. Therefore, Trudeau might again form a minority government in Canada.

“Now is the time to pick the right direction for our country to keep moving forward or let the Conservative takes us back,” Trudeau said while addressing a crowd of over 200 volunteers in Montreal.

In contrast, Conservative leader Erin O’Toole planned to spend the entire day in parliamentary constituencies near Toronto.
